My Reflections on “The Dream”

From the moment I walked through the doors of 4010 Buckingham Road, life has never been the same. To know your passion is geriatrics is one thing, to realize a mission is another .Brenda was a mentor to me who became a friend, she was a vision in motion. Brenda was continuously giving; Elesy Manor was created and has continued in the spirit of giving. It was her desire to allow elderly people to age in place without their dignity, mental and physical abilities being compromised in any way. As a matter of fact, she sought to enhance their quality of life despite the challenges that accompanied their aging processes. Brenda did this with such grace and dignity; she created a strong medical model in a social and homelike setting.

Nursing and geriatrics were her passion. Providing exceptional care in a home setting was her vision. Elesy Manor is in every sense of the word, a dream realized, a vision fulfilled, it was and will always be a mission, an extension of Brenda's love and compassion that is tangible and continues to touch so many lives.

Many people walk this earth with a dream. They have a dream to leave their mark on this world and touch lives in a positive way. Brenda had that same dream. She wanted to help people; we had many conversations about her desire to enhance the quality of life for seniors, our day evolved around making these ideas a reality. She was special; she was determined to make this dream a reality. Elesy Manor is a dream Fulfilled.

What do you do when a source of your inspiration is no longer here? How do you go on? I made a commitment to myself to make this life meaningful for myself and others. I guess I have been blessed. I know my passion and my mission. I have been inspired and the dream will continue, the foundation is strong, it is intact and we will continue to build on the principals of our founder, a founder who was so loving and gentle but strong and determined to give our seniors a quality life. Elesy Manor will never be a dream unfulfilled. It is part of my lifestyle, a life that includes an awesome extended family, and so many lives are affected on a daily basis by our existence. Families can sleep at night; grandchildren can visit their grannies, because they all know that they are in a loving, nurturing environment.
